Get Frenchy #8: The Anglo-French Rivalry
... still going strong.
Observations From Running My Second Half Marathon
- Crappy shoes I can understand and respect, long-term feet/joint issues may be in the cards but perhaps money is an issue. But wearing jeans to run a half marathon? That is stupid and unforgivable.
- So the instruction diagram shows that the right way to fasten the timer chip to your shoelaces is to lace it up at the bottom, that doesn't mean you have to follow it blindly and spend half an hour removing the timer chip then another half an hour tying shoelaces when returning the timer chip.
- Runners who wear past year marathon tees have a statement to make – this isn't our first marathon, you know.
- There actually exist hardcore runners who take more care than most people to ensure their number tags remain in mint condition. Quirks range from sewing number tags onto tees, wrapping number tags in plastic then pinning it onto tees to scanning a reduced-size version/ photostating a copy to pin onto tees.
- The area around water stations are always blatantly littered with sponges and cups. Does running a half/full marathon give one full right to litter? Has running has evolved into a dependent, waste-generating activity that is made possible only with people cleaning up after the runners? I'd also witnessed plenty of runners throwing empty bottles to the side of the road, at times barely missing by-standers. Have runners become so single-minded they think they are entitled to litter en route, as long as it is not in the path of fellow runners? It's only running for goodness' sake!
Culture Shock #145
My cabdriver this morning actually asked if he could light up.

- This is probably tough, how do I lay my hands on a copy?

- I'm having cold feet at the thought of measuring laziness in 21097.5 m.
Suzhou

I never had any urge to visit Suzhou, and I didn't want to visit it just because everyone else does. That is, until Suzhou Museum came into the picture. View the rest of the snaps here.
Get Frenchy #7: Presidential Elections
With the strikes in France raging on, we pause to observe an interesting comparison between Korea and France.
