Culture Shock #112

Everyone, including the managers, who wasn't in office by 8.30am this morning got a post-it stuck on his/her desk that reads in chinese, "Office hours start 8:30. Pls be punctual for work." Sometimes I can't believe how totalitarian my firm can be, and I'd thought making us sign off a latecomer's list was as bad as it can get. Well apparently I was wrong.

N and L

I never fail to crack myself up silly when I'm with N and L. Tonight we were at a boring networking event but ended up having lots of fun getting to know strangers, spilling canapés (ok at least L and I), having serious sexual orientation conversations at the dinner table and negotiating with N to give us rides home on his bicycle. Glad to know I'm not the only quirky one around - I like! We probably entertain crowds just being ourselves.

  • I'd managed to download the remaining episodes of heroes this weekend and watched a marathon of five consecutive episodes, which partly explains why I only just woke up. One of the best series I've ever watched although I'm not sure why I'm not exactly looking forward to season two.

Whoever Knew

We had absolute luck in finding bars with the cheesiest music tonight, first matt&flo then glamour bar. Witnessing drunken partygoers do funny/silly things (note to self: I must have been an embarrassment like that in the not so distant decadent past) and encounters with a drunken laowai (who insisted on toocloseforcomfort contact with N and giving my shoe a kiss on all fours) aside, N and I managed to talk some in a noisy environment. Us sharing heartfelt thoughts/opinions/worries, it's really nice being able to communicate to someone on such levels indeed.

Predictable, but I'm glad to see some attempts by fubu to move away from purely hiphop street style into more fitting cuts. More pictures here.


P.S. I'm quite surprised to see almost no caucasian foreigners at this invites-only launch and its even-more-exclusive afterparty. Really strange considering they are everywhere in shanghai especially at such events, but oh well I'm not complaining heh.
