Shanghai Weather Update

shanghaiweather
Brrrrr! This is probably my first snowy winter, and no one has ever warned me about the grey, dirty slush that comes along with snow/sleet! Now I know.

The first thing I'd seen from my window this morning - a huuge "alan" in chinese characters made up of footprints.

Plenty of snowmen around these few days, this one needs some cheering up.

p/s As seen above, picture quality is crap. My camera is dying and I'm fighting it so all my pictures will come with this flickering tv effect from now on... until I get a new camera.

  • I want to take photos like these, even though I can't afford Scott's Canon 5D and am not sure if the G9 or 400D will be able to do the job. Decisions ahead - a DSLR that does not compromise my habit of bringing a camera everywhere?

Winter Is Hotpot Season

Tonight M and I had headed to our co-worker, A's place for hotpot and last Friday we had hotpot for both lunch and dinner. I certainly can't get enough of it, hotpot makes my winter staple without a doubt. I'm probably going to try out more varieties and do an article on hotpots maybe.

  • Finally leaving the office, and maybe getting some food on the way home (hurray for streetside vendors in China). I haven't got dinner yet.

Culture Shock #149

Once in a while, the taxi driver from hell revisits, just to remind you that he is around. This morning, my taxi driver refused to listen when I said "Keep left or we'll be entering the tunnel" and chose to be distracted/ follow the vehicles in front so we ended up in Yan'an Road tunnel traffic bound for Pudong. That's when I was already late for work and the splitsecond mistake had occurred barely three minutes away from my office. On our way trying to get back to Puxi, he decided to play touristy as we were stuck in a jam re-entering the tunnel - "Look, pearl tower. Have you ever gone up there? I bet it costs money to go up." Stunned speechless.
