Chinese people love having their feet covered up, to the extent that regardless of their footwear, socks or stockings (ankle-length nude stockings inclusive) are a must. This is a country where exposed feet seems to be a big cultural boo-boo. On various occasions where I wore my favorite birks or high heels without stockings, I've had comments ranging from "you should wear stockings, you may catch a cold with your feet exposed." to "haha, are you a beggar? flipflops?"
